Paul “The Surfer” Bourne of Barbados heads a list of high class competition from the Eastern Caribbean who are aiming to snatch the elusive Rally Jamaica crown in this years staging of the event. Paul is set to compete in his recently acquired Banks Beer sponsored 2007 Ford Focus WRC. In the previous Rally Jamaica 2008, Paul was forced to retire from the event in the early stages due to mechanical failure. He hopes to lead the charge of Bajans intent on exporting the trophy to Barbados.
He will be accompanied by countryman Roger “The Sheriff” Skeete in his Subaru Impreza WRC. In the 2008 staging of the event, the Sheriff came close to snatching the trophy finishing 2nd overall behind Jamaica’s own Jeffrey Panton.
Spectator for the 2008 event, Jamaican born John Powell will be representing Trinidad in his Subaru Impreza WRC. John has proved to be a capable challenger in recent years, finishing in the top 5 a few times. John will not be the only entry from Trinidad, as Ainsley Lochan has also entered the event with his Mitsubishi Evolution 9, competing in the JA8 class.
New entry to the WRC class will be Sean Gill in his Suzuki SX4 WRC. In recent years, he has been the driver to beat in the JA3 class, but failed to complete the event in the last two years. We look forward to seeing Sean give the traditional WRC’s a run for their money.
Also from Barbados, is the faithful Harold Morley in his Subaru Impreza, competing in the JN8 class. He will also be accompanied by Ian Warren in a Suzuki Swift, representing the JA3 class.
The Jamaican competitors had better prepare for the Eastern Caribbean Invasion.
